Apple has long been speculated to be working on an even larger-screened version of its iPad. Tentatively dubbed the “iPad Pro,” a new report today suggests that the tablet could end up running a slightly modified version of Apple’s desktop operating system – OS X.
The report arrives after a new discovery of the term “tablet” contained within OS X El Capitan’s trademark filing – at the U.S Patent and Trademark Office.
“The trademark was officially filed under International Class 009 with the specific verbiage as noted [in the screenshot],” says Chris Hauk over at MacTrast.
Although it’s still unclear if Apple actually has plans to release a 12.9-inch version of its popular tablet, and keeping in mind that this latest finding is part of a patent – a usual sign that the information contained within may point to “cautionary measures” by Apple to cover all bases, as apposed to hinting at unreleased products from the Cupertino firm, the inclusion of the word “tablet” in the filing that covers an OS that has, (thus far), been designed exclusively for use on desktop … is interesting – to say the least.
Further convergence of iOS and OS X incoming?
Apple is expected to refresh its iPad line – this October.
